The first wave of PFF29 Programming includes the first 45 films that will be available via the PFF29 Digital Streaming Platform, along with the first announced Centerpiece Films to premiere at the PFS Drive-In at the Navy Yard from October 23 – November 2.
This first programming announcement reflects PFS’s dedication to bringing diverse and acclaimed titles to Philadelphia audiences amid the transition away from traditional physical screenings in theaters. PFF29 features in-home screenings available through the Festival’s digital streaming platform, alongside nightly socially-distanced screenings throughout the 11-day Festival at the expanded 2-screen PFS Drive-In at the Navy Yard.
Curated from the world’s most prestigious film festivals by PFS’s artistic team, this first wave of programming includes 45 of the year’s most highly anticipated, critically acclaimed, and thought provoking films. The lineup includes Venice Golden Lion and TIFF Audience Award winner NOMADLAND, from Director Chloé Zhao and starring Frances McDormand; Cannes selection and TIFF premiere AMMONITE, starring Kate Winslet and Saoirse Ronan; and Berlin Golden Bear winner THERE IS NO EVIL, from Director Mohammad Rasoulof.
The titles revealed thus far represent just a portion of the total line-up that will be available during PFF29. Additional titles, including full nightly line-up for the PFS Drive-In, the popular category Filmadelphia, which showcases the most dynamic and talented voices from the greater Philadelphia area, and films included in the PFS on Us free ticketing initiative, will be announced on October 6th.
“Facing a very different exhibition landscape with fewer films available due to delayed releases by distributors, and having had to dramatically adjust our Festival presentation model with physical theaters unavailable due to the COVID-19 pandemic, I couldn’t be more excited with how the PFF29 Festival line-up has come together,” states PFS Executive Director J. Andrew Greenblatt. “Now more accessible and inclusive than ever, with the majority of the films available through our digital streaming platform, we’re thrilled to deliver another fantastic Film Festival to the greater Philadelphia region and, for many films, to the entire country”
“We’ve always had the goal of trying to bring the best of the Festival season under one roof in Philadelphia,” remarks PFS Artistic Director Michael Lerman. “I couldn’t be more ecstatic that, at a moment like this in history, we’ve figured out how to put it under all your roofs – in your homes, in your cars, we’re able to bring great cinema to you.”
The full slate of programming for PFF29 along with the Festival schedule and digital Festival Program Guide will be released on October 6th. Individual tickets going on-sale for PFS Members on Sunday, October 11th and to the general public beginning Tuesday, October 13th, with Badge Holders receiving a head start on Drive-In screenings on Friday, October 9. Badges are currently available to purchase.
