Last night at Movie Monday, PFS was proud to present the screening of RESURRECT DEAD: THE MYSTERY OF THE TOYNBEE TILES to a packed house at the Trocadero.

The crowd was excited and intrigued to watch the film that explores the bizarre phenomenon that is the Toynbee tiles. If you’ve never seen or heard of these tiles do yourself a favor and google it- or better yet watch the film! The documentary follow 3 young men who, through extreme investigation, try to figure out who is this mysterious artist placing these tiles and why he is doing it.

I saw the Philadelphia Film Society screening of In the Land of Blood and Honey more than a week ago, yet I kept putting off writing my commentary. Why? Because I have a hard and fast rule when it comes to movie/film genres – I don’t see war movies!  I’ve never seen Bridge Over River Kwai, Platoon, Saving Private Ryan, Black Hawk Down, The Hurt Locker etc… The senselessness of men (and women) in battle is just something I don’t care to watch. However, I made an exception with this film because I, like most who follow Hollywood, am fascinated with Angelina Jolie – as a mother, an actress, an activist, a “wife” to Brad, and now as a writer/director.

At the Philadelphia Film Society preview screening of Tinker Tailor Solider Spy, I was handed a cheat sheet for the film — a guide of the characters, Secret Intelligence Service jargon, background on The Circus etc… Now let me tell you, I love these weekly film screenings, but I come to them from an 8 hour day at a mind-numbing, zombie-inducing day gig, which upon leaving, I have over an hour’s drive in rush hour traffic (gas at $3.43 a gallon) to reach Center City. I park a 15 min walk away from the theater in order to get free parking. With no time to stop for dinner, I am revived only by the Ritz Theater’s $2 mint hot chocolate.
