20th Anniversary Philadelphia Film Festival Short Film Competition

The 20th Anniversary Philadelphia Film Festival Short Film Competition is
supported by the Knight Foundation’s Knight Arts Challenge

The Philadelphia Film Society is seeking submissions from area filmmakers for the 20th Philadelphia Film Festival Short Film Competition.

The top ten winners, including the Grand Prize Winner, will each receive an All-Access Badge to the 20th Anniversary Philadelphia Film Festival and their winning films will all be screened during the Festival.

The Grand Prize Winner will be announced at the 20th Philadelphia Film Festival. He/she will receive an award as well as ONE ROUND-TRIP TICKET TO ANYWHERE THAT SOUTHWEST AIRLINES FLIES, courtesy of our Festival sponsor, Southwest Airlines!

All valid submissions will be judged by the Artistic Staff of the Philadelphia Film Society and winners will be chosen thereafter. All applicants are encouraged to submit their work following the official contest rules and requirements listed below.

Entries may be submitted, with a completed application form, between now until September 1, 2011 at 5pm to the following address:

We are unable to return submissions under any circumstances. Please retain a copy for yourself.

COMPETITION RULES AND REQUIREMENTS

Film content must feature one of the following 20 Iconic Philadelphia Symbols:

1. Rocky Balboa
2. The Liberty Bell
3. Independence Hall
4. Water Ice / Italian Ice
5. LOVE Park
6. Historic Philadelphia figures such as William Penn, Benjamin Franklin, Betsy Ross, Edgar Allen Poe, etc
7. The Ben Franklin Bridge
8. City Hall
9. Boat House Row
10. Eastern State Penitentiary
11. The Comcast Center
12. The Philadelphia Art Museum
13. Soft Pretzels
14. Cheesesteaks
15. Mummers
16. Any Philadelphia Sports Teams – Phillies, Eagles, Flyers, and/or 76ers
17. The Italian Market
18. The Philadelphia Zoo
19. Rittenhouse Square
20. The National Constitution Center

The top winners will be announced in early September 2011.
All submissions must be 30 minutes in length or less.
All submissions must be the original work of the applicants. Neither the competition nor its jurists investigates or attests to the authenticity of an applicant’s statement of authorship or rights.
The use of any trademarks will disqualify your video. Do not use any copyrighted material. Copyrighted material includes but is not limited to film clips, television clips, audio clips, video game clips, books, magazines, etc.
Applicants must accept, without reservation, the decisions rendered by the contest jurors as all decisions are final.
No substitutions or corrections may be made after the trailer has been submitted.
Submissions must also include a completed Application Form with all relevant release forms, or it will not be considered.

Also, can I submit a filled out PDF with a link to the video, and if it is chosen as a top ten can I then send the DVD?

The description of your contest is confusing. Do you want people to submit a short film (30 minutes or less) or a trailer for said short film?

Say we shoot a 30 minute film do we submit the whole film or just a trailer?

Your use of the word "trailer" is what is throwing me off.

If we win will you screen the whole film or just a trailer?

Or perhaps you are referring to the completed short film as a "trailer" Perhaps I am new at this but I don't remember ever seeing a 30 minute trailer before.

To 30th Street Station,
We would like to stick to the landmarks/objects listed above. If you would like to film at 30th St. Station, you must also incorporate something else from the list.
Only DVD entries will be accepted. Online submissions will not be considered.

To Trailer Confusion,
No trailer for the film is required. The entire short film will be shown at the festival, there is no need to submit a shortened version. Sorry for the confusion.
