- Film Festival
Last weekend, all who attended this year’s Philadelphia Asian American Film Festival were treated to some excellent films, fantastic events, and rousing receptions (as well as some bangin’ parties). I know I had a great time at the Asian Americans In Hollywood panel at International House. I even got to meet Parry Shen and B.D. Wong!
But you'll hear all about my experiences later because this year's PAAFF is not over yet! There’s still a full day of films to check out over at Asian Arts Initiative at 1219 Vine Street.
Check out what’s in store:
1:00pm ‘Mr. Cao Goes To Washington’
A fascinating character study of Rep. Joseph Cao (R-New Orleans)--the first Vietnamese American elected to the Congress and the only Republican to vote for President Obama's Health Care Reform Bill.
Director S. Leo Chiang will be in attendance!
3:15pm FREE Talk Story With Daniel Ho
Learn about the incredible and beloved ukulele in Hawaiian "talk story" style from 6-time Grammy Award winning artist and Hawaiian music legend Daniel Ho! You may recognize his music from such movies as ‘The Descendants’ and ‘Forgetting Sarah Marshall. There will also be a mini-concert from Daniel at this event.
4:30pm ‘My KoAloha Story’
‘My KoAloha Story’ is a Made in Hawaii 'talk story' style documentary-music film weaving together both music and story of family, artists, and everyday people. Directed by Philadelphia filmmaker and PAAFF'08 alum Gary San Angel.
Following the finale screening, there will be a catered reception featuring food and drinks (alcoholic and regular) courtesy of the festival sponsors. Plus, the world famous KoAloha Ukulele Company will be giving out 1 custom ukulele to a lucky audience member!
Everyone should come out and send this year’s PAAFF out with a bang! If you attend, be sure to come back to this post and tell me what you thought of closing night or the festival as a whole!
