Just got back from Berlin where the Berlinale and the European Film Market were taking place. It was the first PFS work outing for our new Associate Programmer, Dilcia Barrera, who’s background at Sundance, AFI Fest and Outfest have us all excited about having her on our team. She was covering the Forum and Panorama sections for us while I sifted through the competition and the market looking for the perfect picks for Philly.

PFS Member Sneak Preview: Salmon Fishing in the Yemen

Last night PFS offered its members a sneak preview of Salmon Fishing in the Yemen, an international story of love, war, faith and fishing. An Arab Sheik from the country of Yemen (Amr Waked) strongly desires to bring the sport of salmon fishing to the desert. Harriet Chetwode-Talbot (Emily Blunt) is the account executive of a British company which represents the business interests of the Shiek, and is given the task of finding a fishing expert/scientist, Dr. Fred Jones (Ewan McGregor) to head up the Sheik’s project.

PFS Member Sneak Preview: RAMPART

On Thursday February 16th PFS members got to see a preview screening of a new police drama starring Woody Harrelson, which actually is the second movie he’s made with director Oren Moverman and actor Ben Foster, the first being 2009’s The Messenger. In truth, Rampart isn’t a crime drama or police exposé, it’s a character study of a man who is both extremely articulate and seductive and at the same time, ridiculous and immoral.

Last night at Movie Monday, PFS was proud to present the screening of RESURRECT DEAD: THE MYSTERY OF THE TOYNBEE TILES to a packed house at the Trocadero.

The crowd was excited and intrigued to watch the film that explores the bizarre phenomenon that is the Toynbee tiles. If you’ve never seen or heard of these tiles do yourself a favor and google it- or better yet watch the film! The documentary follow 3 young men who, through extreme investigation, try to figure out who is this mysterious artist placing these tiles and why he is doing it.
