- Film Festival
Yesterday was my first full day of seeing movies at the film festival, so I thought I'd share with you what I thought of a few movies really quickly before my next full day of movies. So here now just for you are some really quick movie reviews:
A charming story with some great performances, although I wasn’t satisfied with the ending. It was almost a cop out to end it the way it did, but it was still an interesting and entertaining movie. Plus, I loved the small appearance by Rhea Perlman and Sacred Heart Hospital from ‘Scrubs’. If you're interested in catching it for yourself, it's playing again on Saturday, October 27th at the Prince Theater. 3 out of 5 stars
Stand Up Guys
Christopher Walken, Alan Arkin, and Al Pacino all had my heart in this movie. These three veterans were very funny in their deliveries and normally I wouldn’t forgive anyone for taking Rowdy Roddy Piper’s line from ‘They Live’ but Walken and Pacino pull it off and are extremely badass in the process. Great ending and an overall great movie about friendship, with a few jokes about getting old scattered in here and there. 3.5 out of 5 stars
John Dies At The End
When the festival guide says that this movie is “a strange and comical new science fiction tale of beasts, drugs, and other dimensions” they’re really not kidding when they say strange. Fans of horror classics such as ‘Phantasm’ and ‘Bubba Ho-Tep’ will certainly appreciate director Don Coscarelli’s latest trippy flick more than I did. 2.5 out of 5 stars
Universal Soldier: The Day of Reckoning 3D
Though the movie lacked in story, it had everything a great action movie should have: boobs, booze, and blood. I’m sure that action movies should probably have more than that, but the fight scenes in this movie were worth the price of admission. The scene in the sports store stands out a a shining moment, and Jean-Claude Van Damme was in great form. For what it was, it was pretty awesome. Certainly beats most Michael Bay movies. 3 out of 5 stars.
What have you all seen so far? Have you seen any of the movies I've seen so far? If you have, share your thoughts on them! And if you haven't, share your thoughts on the movies you have seen.
