This year marked my first time attending the Berlinale. Having never been to Berlin before, and knowing the importance of the Festival, I was very excited for the trip. Every Festival is a very distinct experience, and Berlinale is no exception. The industry presence is overwhelmingly international, even more so than Cannes, largely because of the proximity to Sundance (Berlin starts about 2 weeks after).

The Philadelphia Film Society prides itself on ensuring that its members are the first in Philadelphia to see some of the very best in film – be it through our annual festival (the 21st Annual Philadelphia Film Festival will run October 18-28, 2012) or through our Sneak Preview series that keeps that festival feeling going all year long.

With the Summer Movie Season officially upon us, the Philadelphia Film Society is working hard to make sure that members get a chance to see as many Blockbusters, Spectacles, and Genre Offerings as possible. As a result, in the coming weeks members will be seeing BATTLESHIP, ROCK OF AGES, and CHERNOBYL DIARIES all BEFORE they hit theaters. Another staple of the Summer Movie Season is the Guilty Pleasure… and it doesn’t get more guilty than STEP UP REVOLUTION!

For being released in 1967, it’s pretty impressive how relevant The Graduate still is in 2011. I graduated in December 2009 with a degree in film and television media studies and soon discovered that my studies in school were very different from the jobs available in the “real world,” whatever that actually means. After nearly two years after graduation, I still have no idea what I really want to do. Fortunately, this is a feeling most recent college grads can relate to, including Dustin Hoffman’s Benjamin Braddock!
