I just got back from SXSW, one of the most enjoyable festivals on the circuit, in no small part due to its location in Austin, Texas (one of my favorite cities in the world). While I had a short trip this year, I still managed to squeeze in 23 films, often at the various Alamo Drafthouse’s, quite possibly the best theatre chain in the country.

Just got back from Berlin where the Berlinale and the European Film Market were taking place. It was the first PFS work outing for our new Associate Programmer, Dilcia Barrera, who’s background at Sundance, AFI Fest and Outfest have us all excited about having her on our team. She was covering the Forum and Panorama sections for us while I sifted through the competition and the market looking for the perfect picks for Philly.

Last night PFS offered its members a sneak preview of Salmon Fishing in the Yemen, an international story of love, war, faith and fishing. An Arab Sheik from the country of Yemen (Amr Waked) strongly desires to bring the sport of salmon fishing to the desert. Harriet Chetwode-Talbot (Emily Blunt) is the account executive of a British company which represents the business interests of the Shiek, and is given the task of finding a fishing expert/scientist, Dr. Fred Jones (Ewan McGregor) to head up the Sheik’s project.
