PFF SpringFest – THE GOSPEL ACCORDING TO ANDRÉ
THE GOSPEL ACCORDING TO ANDRÉ
KATE NOVACK | 2017 | USA | English | 94 MIN
From his beginnings as a receptionist at Andy Warhol’s Interview magazine to his storied tenure as editor-at-large of Vogue, style maven André Leon Talley has been an opinionated observer of the world of fashion for the last several decades. While The Gospel According to André offers plenty of glitz, glamour, and juicy gossip from Talley’s rolodex of famous friends, Kate Novack’s insightful doc also serves as a layered portrait of a man whose outsized persona shields a complex and often conflicted soul. Growing up gay in the conservative South and becoming one of the only prominent African Americans in the Paris and New York fashion scenes, this consummate insider has been keenly aware of his outsider status. The Gospel According to André is ultimately a tribute to Talley’s indomitable spirit and his ability to seek out and celebrate beauty in all its forms.
