PFF SpringFest – ON THE SEVENTH DAY
ON THE SEVENTH DAY
JIM MCKAY | 2018 | USA | Spanish, English | 92 MIN
Cast: Fernando Cardona, Gilberto Jiménez, Alfonso Velazquez, Abel Perez
Like many of his immigrant friends living and struggling to get by in Brooklyn, Mexican delivery worker José (Fernando Cardona) toils all week for the chance to let loose on the soccer field every Sunday. For the first part of On the Seventh Day, director Jim McKay simply follows José on his hectic delivery route, observing the young immigrant’s interactions with various New York denizens and creating a fascinating portrait of contemporary urban life in the process. But when José’s boss orders him to work on the day of his soccer team’s upcoming finals match, José must make the difficult and potentially life-altering choice between keeping his job and supporting his community. With his first feature in over a decade, indie filmmaker Jim McKay (Girls Town) has crafted a unique blend of neorealist drama and crowd-pleasing sports film.
