PFF SpringFest – THREE IDENTICAL STRANGERS
THREE IDENTICAL STRANGERS
TIM WARDLE | 2018 | USA | English | 100 MIN
Three Identical Strangers begins with a premise that’s almost too bizarre to be believed, but the story told in this fascinating doc only gets stranger from there. In 1980, three identical triplets who were separated at birth discovered one another as young men. Despite being raised with no awareness of each other’s existence, the brothers quickly formed an intense bond and made the most of their overnight celebrity together. But as director Tim Wardle expertly lays out in this troubling doc, the story of the triplets’ reunion gave way to something much darker, involving government cover-ups, mental illness, and tragedy. Weaving together the various strands of this astonishing story, Three Identical Strangers is a true-life conspiracy thriller that proves that reality truly is stranger than fiction.
