In this fabulous culture clash comedy, Tick/Mitzi (Hugo Weaving) enlists fellow drag perforrmers Adam/Felicia (Guy Pearce) and Bernice (Terence Stamp) to join him for a gig in remote Alice Springs. Buying a “budget Barbie camper” and promptly naming the purple bus Priscilla, the trio sets off on a trek through The Outback. Hard-drinking, world-weary Bernice and cocky young Felicia are at each other’s throats, but their acid-tongued spats are the least of the queens’ worries. Far away from the relative open-mindedness of Sydney, the three flamboyant fish-out-out-of-water must contend with the hostility and homophobia of smalltown Australia, learning to love themselves and support each other along the way. As heartwarming as it is hilarious, the film is interspersed with memorable lip-synch numbers, featuring eye-popping, Oscar-winning costumes and a soundtrack of forgotten AM radio gems and classics from the likes of The Village People, Gloria Gaynor, and ABBA.
