VAHID JALILVAND | 2017 | Iran | Farsi | 104 MIN
Cast: Navid Mohammadzadeh, Amir Agha’ee, Hediyeh Tehrani, Zakiyeh Behbahani
Driving home from work one night, medical examiner Dr. Nariman (Amir Agha’ee) is involved in a seemingly minor collision with a motorcycle driven by family man Moosa (Navid Mohammadzadeh). But when tragedy strikes soon after the accident, Dr. Nariman becomes increasingly obsessed with thoughts of self-recrimination, convinced that he is somehow responsible for the terrible misfortune. Meanwhile, Moosa is wracked with guilt, and becomes similarly consumed. Agha’ee and Mohammadzadeh (winner of the Best Actor prize at the Venice Film Festival for his performance) are mesmerizing as two very different men whose lives become inextricably linked. With his impressive second feature, director Vahid Jalilvand has created a powerful meditation on grief and culpability, as well as a thoughtful look at contemporary Iranian society.
