THEATER WILL OPEN WITH WALT DISNEY’S SAVING MR. BANKS THIS FRIDAY FOLLOWED BY PARAMOUNT’S THE WOLF OF WALL STREET ON CHRISTMAS DAY

(PHILADELPHIA, PA) December 20, 2013 – The PFS Theater at the Roxy will officially open its doors to moviegoers on Friday, December 20. During its first weeks in business, Center City moviegoers will have the chance to see two of the holiday season’s most highly-anticipated films beginning with Saving Mr. Banks starring Tom Hanks & Emma Thompson this Friday and director Martin Scorsese’s The Wolf of Wall Street starring Leonardo DiCaprio on Christmas Day.

“For the past year – at screenings, events and even our Philadelphia Film Festival – I had to address many questions regarding the status of the Roxy and its ongoing makeover,” said Andrew Greenblatt, Executive Director of the Philadelphia Film Society.  “Today, I am thrilled to announce the opening of the new PFS Theater at the Roxy this Friday, with two fantastic films that are amongst the best of the year.  I can’t wait for people to come to the theater, see all of the incredible work that has been done, and experience a film in the comfort of our new home.”

Since assuming operations over the venue in January 2013, the PFS Theater at the Roxy has undergone major renovations.  The renovations include adding new seating, new floors, new digital projection in both theaters along with a 35MM reel-to-reel projection system in one theater, new screens, and a new sound system, new lobby, and washrooms.  The theater is also very pleased to have made the Roxy ADA accessible.  The Film Society will continue to work diligently on converting the PFS Theater at the Roxy into a state-of-the-Art venue yielding the best possible movie going experience.

The Philadelphia Film Society will operate the Roxy as a first-run theater with plans to program an array of highly anticipated new films with an focus on American independent, foreign and documentary films along with the repertory cinema not widely available in the city. PFS will also offer educational programs focused on film and filmmakers, designed for students and film-lovers of any age.

The new PFS Theater at the Roxy is located at 2023 Sansom Street in the Rittenhouse Square neighborhood of Philadelphia.  Consisting of two row homes, the Roxy has functioned as a two screen movie theater since 1975. Showtimes and tickets will be available online at www.filmadelphia.org/nowshowing and at the theater’s box office.
