The Philadelphia Film Society and The University of the Arts screen MATINEE as their next installment of The Artist as the Filmmaker Series. This series gives its audience the opportunity to screen work by directors who began their careers as visual artists. This program serves as an extension of the Masters of Cinema selection with the purpose to educate the audience on the collaboration of multiple art forms while celebrating the the introductory of the University of the Arts' School of Film in 2012.

Joe Dante, the director of MATINEE, is most well known for his film Gremlins was a graduate of the University of the Arts in 1968. Starring John Goodman, MATINEE, is the story of an unimportant film promoter who releases a cheesy horror film during the Cuban Missile Crisis, (IMDb).
