Wanamaker Organ to Accompany Screening of Fritz Lang’s
Newly Restored ‘METROPOLIS’ in Philadelphia Macy’s Grand Court
Hosted by the Philadelphia Film Society & the Friends of the Wanamaker Organ
(PHILADELPHIA, PA) February 16, 2011 - The Philadelphia Film Society, in partnership with Friends of the Wanamaker Organ and hosted by Macy’s Center City, announces a benefit screening of the newly restored Metropolis, Fritz Lang’s 1927 silent sci-fi masterpiece. Grand Court Organist Peter Richard Conte will improvise an accompaniment using the full resources of the Wanamaker Organ while incorporating many of the 'signature tunes' from the original Gottfried Huppertz score.

(PHILADELPHIA, PA) February 8, 2011 – The Philadelphia Film Festival will be celebrating its 20th Anniversary this October, from the 13th – 23rd, 2011. To commemorate this milestone event, the Philadelphia Film Society has programmed the 2011 filmadelphiaCLASSICS screening series to feature 10 films that are famous for being shot or set in Philadelphia, starting in February and continuing through the Festival in October.

19TH PHILADELPHIA FILM FESTIVAL WRAPS WITH MOST DIVERSE FILM SLATE IN ITS HISTORY
(PHILADELPHIA, PA) October 29, 2010 – The 19th Philadelphia Film Festival (PFF) ended its 10-day celebration of all things cinematic with a closing night screening of Danny Boyle’s 127 Hours on Saturday, October 23 at the Prince Music Theater. The Boyle helmer capped off the October 14-24 event that launched with the Darren Aronofsky opener Black Swan, featuring an appearance and post-screening Q&A session with Aronofsky himself.

Have you ever watched a movie and thought, “I could have written something better than that”? Well, now is your chance to prove it!
Marc Lapadula, professor of screenwriting at Yale University and former SW professor at University of Pennsylvania, will lead a 3-Soundstages, one of our city’s largest operating film and television studios (and the site of the new PFS offices)!
In this course, patrons will have the opportunity to examine classic film examples and their construction, explore common genres and screenwriting “rules”, and discuss how to sell a completed script.
The writers of (500) Days of Summer, The Hangover, The Break-up, and other successful screen and teleplays were all former students of professor Lapadula.
The class will meet three times on Tuesday August 17, 24 and 31, from 7-9pm. Registration is $125 and includes a course packet, which contains examples of screen and teleplays. PFS Members can enroll for the discounted rate of $100.
