SCREENING AND COCKTAIL HOUR EVENT BENEFITS PFS AT THE  ROXY THEATER RESTORATION

WHAT: The Philadelphia Film Society (PFS) is hosting an event benefiting the PFS at the Roxy Theater restoration project with a local premiere of Upstream Color, the highly anticipated film and official selection of the 2013 Sundance Film Festival, winner of the Special Jury Prize – Sound Design and nominated for the Grand Jury Prize – Dramatic. The screening will be preceded by a cocktail hour, and followed by a Q&A session, with writer/director Shane Carruth in attendance.

About the film: Premiering at the 2013 Sundance Film Festival, “Upstream Color” is a story about a man and woman who are drawn together, entangled in the lifecycle of an ageless organism. Identity becomes an illusion as             they struggle to assemble the loose fragments of wrecked lives.

WHO: PFS is a 501 (c)(3) not-for-profit arts organization with a mission to utilize film’s unique capacity to engage a broad cross-section of the community, while further providing access to powerful films from around the world in order to increase education and understanding. It does so by annually producing the Philadelphia Film Festival, a top-tier festival featuring the best of American and International cinema, and programming other unique screenings and events year-round. The PFS Theater at the Roxy will be a new home for PFS, which will provide additional and daily access to films and experiences from which the Philadelphia community can be further engaged and educated.

WHY: Opportunity to learn more about the Roxy Theater renovation project in Philadelphia’s Rittenhouse neighborhood. Guests will also have the chance to meet award-winning filmmaker Shane Carruth and experience the Philadelphia premiere of Upstream Color.

WHEN: On Wednesday, March 27th cocktail hour will begin at 6:30 p.m., followed by the screening and Q&A at 8 p.m.
