A CLOCKWORK ORANGE

STANLEY KUBRICK | UK, USA | 1971 | 136 MIN | X | ENGLISH | 4K

Few films have garnered such rapturous praise and utter disdain upon release than the provocative adaptation A CLOCKWORK ORANGE from celebrated cinema master Stanley Kubrick. Faithfully taking the novel’s graphic portrayal of mindless violence by classical music loving delinquents caused an uproar upon its initial release, even initially garnering the dreaded X rating. Yet the film has endured as a delirious synapse overload brimming with memorable visuals, iconic slang, sharp social and political satire, and an all time great Malcolm McDowell. After endless nights of cavorting around a terrifying London with his droogs, charismatic gang leader Alex (McDowell) and his past evil deeds finally land him behind bars. His seemingly incurable lust for causing havoc makes him a perfect test subject for an extreme behavior rehabilitation experiment while in jail. Though participation means an early release, an eager Alex quickly learns that the cure has troubling consequences. Even after 50 years there’s never been, and will probably never be, a wide-release film quite like the brilliantly sadistic A CLOCKWORK ORANGE that truly tested the audience’s taste for obscenely dark humor and some good old ultra-violence.

Cast: Malcolm McDowell, Patrick Magee, Adrienne Corri, Miriam Karlin
