A GIRL MISSING
KOJI FUKADA | JAPAN | 2019 | 112 MIN | NR | JAPANESE
A Girl Missing follows middle-aged Ichiko (Mariko Tsutsui), a nurse for the Oishos family’s bedridden matriarch. Ichiko possesses one of those indescribably familiar faces, and becomes a close confidant to the family’s eldest daughter Motoko (Mikako Ichikawa). As Ichiko becomes further ingrained in the Oishos’ household, the kidnapping of Motoko’s younger sister Saki (Miyu Ogawa) suddenly changes everything. Saki is returned just one week later, but the shocking revelation of the perpetrator’s identity throws Ichikio’s life into turmoil. Directed by the masterful Kōji Fukada (PFF25’s Harmonium), A Girl Missing is a slow-burning, electric portrait of a woman fighting for her life and sanity.
