ALL THAT JAZZ
BOB FOSSE | USA | 1979 | 123 MIN | R | ENGLISH, SPANISH
It’s showtime, folks! When he isn’t popping uppers, chain-smoking, or philandering with the women of his company, choreographer/director Joe Gideon (Roy Scheider) is attempting to revolutionize the stage with a provocative new musical, jazz hands and all. To complicate things, the editing process on his newest film, The Stand Up, about a Lenny Bruce-esque comedian appears to be mocking him in the editing bay with its frank truths about the life he has led. His lust for perfection gives way to manic outbursts of creativity and depressing lows that lead him down a path of certain death. The legendary Bob Fosse put his blood, sweat, and steps into the larger than life story of a destructive man on a suicide mission filled with phenomenal, surreal performances.
