It’s 1987, and Robin (Vaughan Murrae) has just transferred to a new school. The students are baffled — is Robin a boy or a girl? Robin is uninterested in answering that question, and more interested in making friends. Particularly, they zero in on the school bully, Carter (Dominic Lippa), whom Robin does their best to impress by engaging in mean-spirited pranks and youthful hijinks. Just as Robin is becoming Carter’s new sidekick, Izzy (Lacey Oake), a charming and talented singer, shows up at the tryouts for the high school musical, changing everything. Jealous, irritated, and altogether conflicted, Robin seemingly will stop at nothing to maintain their friendship with Carter. As their actions begin to spiral out of control, Robin must face their innermost insecurities and trauma as they all come bubbling to the surface. From Trevor Anderson, BEFORE I CHANGE MY MIND is a tender and often hilarious coming-of-age story dripping with vibrant 1980s nostalgia.
