BLOOD WEDDING

CARLOS SAURA | SPAIN | 1981 | 71 MIN | NR

Presented by the Philadelphia Film Society in collaboration with the Wilma Theater, this film series explores the work and history of celebrated dramatist Federico García Lorca. The films include a flamenco adaption of BLOOD WEDDING, a searing exploration of Lorca’s death during the Spanish Civil War (DEATH IN GRANADA, starring Andy Garcia), and an intimate look at the playwright’s early years and relationship with Salvador Dalí and Luis Buñuel (LITTLE ASHES, starring Javier Beltrán, Robert Pattinson, and Matthew McNulty).

Antonio Gadas and his dance company perform a flamenco adaptation of Lorca’s BLOOD WEDDING.

Csaba Horváth
Csaba Horváth is the director-choreographer of Blood Wedding at The Wilma Theater. Developing a theatrical movement style, he founded the Forte Company in Budapest and directed many productions including Crime and Punishment, The Notebook, Rats, Concerto/String Quartet No. 5, and Your Kingdom.

Blanka Zizka
Blanka Zizka has been the Artistic Director The Wilma Theater since 1981. She has directed over 70 plays and musicals at the Wilma including Tony Kushner’s Angels in America, the world premiere of Don Juan Comes Home from Iraq, and the world premiere of her own play Adapt! She has collaborated with numerous playwrights including Paula Vogel, Yussef El Guindi, Sarah Ruhl, and Tom Stoppard.

Moderator: Walter Bilderback
Walter Bilderback is the Resident Dramaturg and Literary Manager at The Wilma Theater. He serves as the Dramaturg on Blood Wedding. Favorite productions at the Wilma include Our Class, Don Juan Comes Home From Iraq, Hamlet and When the Rain Stops Falling.


The Prince Theater Black Box is now screening newly released feature films thanks to state-of-the-art upgrades.
