All teenage cheerleader Buffy Summers (Kristy Swanson) wants to do is graduate from high school, go to Europe, marry Christian Slater, and die. So it’s not exactly welcome news when mysterious older gentleman Merrick (Donald Sutherland) lets Buffy know that she’s not just an ordinary teen; she’s the “Chosen One”—a vampire slayer destined to fight against the forces of darkness. Soon Buffy is honing her newfound butt-kicking powers, warding off vampire king Lothos (Rutger Hauer), and romancing soul patch-wearing dreamboat Pike (Luke Perry)—all without breaking a nail. Writer Joss Whedon’s first foray into the Buffy-verse shares much of the same deadpan DNA as his beloved series, but the film is very much its own animal, full of glorious early-90s fashion and colorful Valley Girl slang (“Take a chill lozenge.” “Get out of my facial!”).

Do you like trivia, nostalgia films, and drink? Then get your friends together to form an awesome Quizzo team (witty squad name required) and put your film and pop culture knowledge to the test at PFS’ monthly Quizzo & Movie!

Every First Thursday of the month, come out to the Philadelphia Film Center for a screening of a crowd-pleasing modern classic preceded by a few rounds Quizzo where all questions are about or inspired by that night’s movie. During the film, we will tally up the scores and reveal the winning team as the credits roll. The first-place team and runners-up will win prizes and bragging rights!
