ELECTION
ALEXANDER PAYNE | USA | 1999 | 104 MIN | R
Presented by the Philadelphia Film Society Young Friends
With her impeccable extracurricular résumé, perfect grades, and aggressively chipper demeanor, high school junior Tracy Flick (Reese Witherspoon) would seem to be the perfect candidate for Student Body President. But civics teacher Jim McAllister (Matthew Broderick) sees the power-hungry viper beneath the matronly sweater vests, and decides to thwart Tracy’s campaign by convincing popular dimwit Paul Metzler (Chris Klein) to join the race. The ensuing antics throw the school, and Mr. McAllister’s personal life, into a state of chaos from which no will emerge unscathed. Featuring a slew of spot-on comedic performances and an endlessly quotable script, Election is justly considered a cornerstone of both high school comedies and political satire.
Election will be a BYO screening, so don’t forget your favorite red, white, bubbly, or beer and we’ll provide glassware! $3 convenience fee per person will be waived for all PFS Young Friends Members! To learn more about PFS Young Friends, click HERE.

“This remarkable film may be set in high school, but its satiric take on moral corruption, political chicanery, adultery, and seduction is anything but juvenile.” –Time Out
