GROUNDHOG DAY
HAROLD RAMIS | USA | 1993 | 101 MIN | PG | ENGLISH
One of the most innovative comedies of all time finds Bill Murray’s TV weatherman Phil Connors reluctantly reporting on a regional rodent’s shadow in the small town of Punxsutawney, Pennsylvania. His contempt for the hokey festivities are only heightened when, to the tune of Sonny and Cher, Phil awakens the next morning to discover he is doomed to repeat the same day for eternity. At first gorging upon sticky buns, getting drunk, and sleeping around with no consequences seems like a blessing, until his cold heart begins to thaw at the thought of his romantically uninterested producer Rita (Andie MacDowell). Merging the ridiculously inane with a philosophically profound predicament, director/co-writer Harold Ramis and Bill Murray created a new breed of smart, laugh out loud comedy with a fantastical twist that continues to inspire films to this day.
Cast: Bill Murray, Andie MacDowell, Chris Elliott, Stephen Tobolowsky
