HIGH SOCIETY
CHARLES WALTERS | USA | 1956 | 111 MIN | NR | ENGLISH
The antics of HIGH SOCIETY may seem familiar to fans of the cherished Katherine Hepburn-led romantic comedy THE PHILADELPHIA STORY, but MGM upped the ante when they invited real life rivals Bing Crosby and Frank Sinatra to woo the newly minted Princess of Monaco herself, Grace Kelly. After wealthy Rhode Island socialite Tracy Lord (Kelly) divorces famed singer C.K. Dexter-Haven (Crosby), her romantic life quickly rebounds when she becomes engaged to local rich stiff George Kitteridge (John Lund). As the wedding quickly approaches and C.K. laments his lost love, local reporter Mike Connor (Sinatra) enters the fray as a potential new entry in Tracy’s growing list of suitors. Featuring a special performance by Louis Armstrong and a slew of standards and soon-to-be hits by Cole Porter, HIGH SOCIETY is a grand finale to Kelly’s brief, but impactful career.
Cast: Grace Kelly, Bing Crosby, Frank Sinatra, Celeste Holm
