LABYRINTH
JIM HENSON | UK, USA | 1986 | 101 MIN | PG | ENGLISH
Far from the world of Kermit the Frog, Miss Piggy, and Ernie, awaits the tight pants wearing and mane-flowing Gareth, the Goblin King (David Bowie) . When he isn’t kidnapping toddlers for fun, Gareth spends his time seductively swooning those who listen (and who doesn’t?) about life’s temptations. After granting the wish of fed up teenager Sarah (Jennifer Connelly), he discovers that she actually does not want her annoying baby step brother Toby to disappear and be turned into a goblin. Showing some compassion for the young adult’s obnoxious pleas, Gareth offers the very reasonable option for Sarah to navigate a fantastical labyrinth in order to have Toby returned. All in a day’s work for the Goblin King and filmmaker Jim Henson’s visionary coming-of-age tale that continues to ignite fear, excitement, and nostalgia in its many, many loyal fans to this day.
Cast: David Bowie, Jennifer Connelly, Toby Froud, Shelley Thompson
