Cuba is known for producing world-class dancers who can do anything from contemporary to classical to capoeira to Afro–Cuban. Malpaso will not disappoint when it makes its Philadelphia debut.
The company will be premiering a brand new work by Aszure Barton, whose company was a big hit in Philadelphia a few years ago. Plus they’ll present 24 Hours and a Dog, a response to Grammy-award winning jazz composer Arturo O’Farrill’s theatrical and evocative music. This piece nods to the everyday pedestrian life of a dancer in Havana.
The presentation of Malpaso Dance Company was made possible by the New England Foundation for the Arts’ National Dance Project, with lead funding from the Doris Duke Charitable Foundation and The Andrew W. Mellon Foundation, with additional support from the National Endowment for the Arts.
Attend a Post-Performance Chat after every Thursday 7:30PM and Saturday 2PM show. Meet the company, ask questions, and get the scoop on the what’s and the why’s of the creative process.
