MR. JONES

AGNIESZKA HOLLAND | POLAND, UK, UKRAINE | 2019 | 119 MIN | NR | ENGLISH

Part of the Community Screening Series
in partnership with the Honorary Consul of Ukraine and the Welsh Society of Philadelphia, Wales salutes Ukraine at this free screening of the movie MR. JONES at the Philadelphia Film Center.

Tickets for this event are FREE, a reservation to the event is required.
Admission is on a first-come first-served basis.

Billed as ‘the most important true story you will ever watch’, MR. JONES is a biographical thriller starring James Norton (HAPPY VALLEY, GRANTCHESTER), Vanessa Kirby (THE CROWN, PIECES OF A WOMAN) and Peter Sarsgaard (THE BATMAN, DOPESICK) and is directed by Agnieszka Holland. The movie is based on the true but tragic story of Welsh journalist Gareth Jones. In 1933 Jones travels to the Soviet Union and uncovers the truth about the Holodomor’- the deathly famine caused by Stalin in Ukraine. Responsible for millions of deaths, the Soviets desperately want to conceal the famine from the outside world and Jones is the only journalist brave enough to break the story to the western media.

Cast: JAMES NORTON, VANESSA KIRBY, PETER SARSGAARD

PFS ON US is a free ticketing initiative that makes our programming available to all. Free tickets are available to the screening. Seating is first-come, first-served. Reservations do not guarantee admission.

Admission is not guaranteed after scheduled start time.

The Philadelphia Film Society is proud to present MR JONES in partnership with the Welsh Society of Philadelphia, as a part of their Philadelphia Welsh Week activities. Philadelphia Welsh Week will take place from August 27 to September 4 and is a celebration of Welsh culture, heritage and history. The festival is organised by two non-profits: the North American Festival of Wales and the Welsh Society of Philadelphia. The festival also has the support of the Welsh Government and the City of Philadelphia, and is funded partly by the Triumph Foundation and other local organisations.
