PEFF: FIRE OF LOVE
SARA DOSA | USA, CANADA | FRENCH, ENGLISH | 2022 | 93 MIN
Part of Green Screen: Philadelphia Environmental Film Festival
Opening Night Film
Home movies are rarely described as exhilarating, but the hours of jaw-dropping footage that fearless married couple Katia and Maurice Krafft captured during their decades of volcano research is awe-inspiring. The Kraffts present dangerously close footage of their times spent in Earth’s eternal fires as their endearing relationship grows and unpredictably erupts, much like their chosen field of study. Though Katia’s strict reliance on science and Maurice’s adventurous lust for life are often at odds, the two remain committed to unlocking Earth’s mammoth mysteries. Filmmaker Sara Dosa’s breakout film from this year’s Sundance Film Festival offers an exploration of the unknown that echoes the spine-tingling and swashbuckling joie de vivre found in the likes of legendary explorer Jacques Costeau’s seminal works.
