DEADLINE
A notorious trashy horror writer just wants to get some work done, but his loathsome wife and kids get in the way in this gleefully funny and forgotten schlock from the north.
DEADLINE’s Steven Lessey (Stephen Young) would make a fine guest at a certain haunted Colorado hotel. The smug and brazen bargain bin horror author would surely thrive in the isolated hallways of the infamous Overlook where he could get some gosh darn peace and quiet. What with his coke-addled wife, obnoxious kids, and a smarmy producer always yelling in his ear, it’s amazing he even has time to escape into the gory reveries of his own work. But just when he thinks he has a chance to break out of the horror genre and create real meaningful art, tragedy strikes the Lessey family, damning all involved. Young’s performance as the fed up Stephen King-wannabe often seems to hilariously channel the actor’s own distaste with DEADLINE’s over the top script. Filled with tubs of blood and shrieks, DEADLINE is the perfect unknown Canadian gem you didn’t know you needed this Halloween.
