THE MONSTER SQUAD

Fred Dekker | USA | English | 1987 | 83 min

A group of monster-obsessed kids must save their town from Count Dracula and his gang of classic horror villains in this nostalgic cult classic.

You already know who to call when there are ghosts, but whose number is on the kitchen fridge when you have the likes of Count Dracula, the Mummy, Gill-Man ravaging your town? The Monster Squad! A club made up of preteen horror fanatics obsessed with classic creature features come into possession of Van Helsing’s diary. The famed vampire hunter describes, in German, a magical amulet that is composed of the world’s concentrated good. Unlucky for squad leader Sean (Andre Gower) and the gang, cinema’s most famed monsters have come to town with the aim of destroying the amulet and thrusting the world into perpetual darkness. It’s up to the Monster Squad (with unexpected help from Frankenstein’s monster) to save the amulet before curfew and send the monsters back to where they belong on the silver screen. Chock-full of mischief and spooky effects, this goofy, imaginative horror comedy from screenwriter Shane Black has deservedly amassed a cult following, Wolf Dork and all.

CAST: André Gower, Robby Kiger, Stephen Macht, Duncan Regehr
