MY LITTLE SISTER

STÉPHANIE CHUAT, VÉRONIQUE REYMOND | Switzerland | English, French, German | 2020 | 99 MIN

A playwright with writer’s block cares for her terminally ill brother while dealing with her own marital issues in this touching and compassionate tale of family bonds.

Celebrated playwright Lisa (Nina Hoss, PHOENIX) hasn’t put a single word to paper since her family’s move from Berlin to the small Swiss resort town of Leysin. Surrounded only by frosty landscapes and adolescent musical prodigies from the boarding school run by her increasingly distant husband (where she reluctantly teaches), Lisa yearns to return to Germany. Lisa’s icy heart begins to thaw with the arrival of her cancer-stricken twin brother Sven (Lars Eidinger, PFF25’s PERSONAL SHOPPER), an actor whose lively tendencies make any moment a jovial scene, despite the rigorous progress of his disease. As the two confront both their obtuse, chain-smoking mother (Marthe Keller) and the unfortunate obstacles with which life has presented them, Lisa and Sven may find the inspiration to take the stage once again. Swiss directors Stéphanie Chaut and Véronique Reymond, assisted by rapturous performances from Hoss and Eidinger, delicately capture the near-telepathic connection between siblings, which transcends despite a devastating disease’s attempt to destroy it.

CAST: Nina Hoss, Lars Eldinger, Martha Keller, Jens Albinus
