MY ZOE

JULIE DELPY | France, Germany, UK, USA | English | 2019 | 106 MIN

Julie Delpy writes, directs, and stars in this audacious and emotionally devastating drama about a woman whose love for her daughter pushes her to extreme lengths.

Following an acrimonious breakup, Berlin-based scientist Isabelle (Julie Delpy) struggles to adjust to a co-parenting routine that only allows her to spend limited time with her beloved daughter, Zoe. Isabelle’s bitter ex, James (Richard Armitage), makes the challenging situation even more difficult, never missing a chance to question Isabelle’s competence as a mother. This testy dynamic boils over into outright vitriol when tragedy strikes, forcing the estranged couple to come together to make an unthinkable choice. Unwilling to accept the worst, Isabelle turns to increasingly risky measures to hold onto her daughter. Her desperate journey takes her to Moscow, where only a brilliant, infamous doctor (Daniel Brühl) can help Isabelle execute her brazen plan. With her seventh outing as director, Delpy has crafted a moving, narratively inventive family drama laced with elements of science fiction. Few films have so viscerally depicted the joys and pains of parenthood.

CAST: Julie Delpy, Daniel Brühl, Richard Armitage, Gemma Arterton
