ONE OF THESE DAYS
A brand new pick-up awaits the last person left standing with their hand on it in this bleak, gripping drama inspired by a real East Texas contest.
Inspired by the outrageous annual endurance contest that was immortalized in the cult-classic documentary HANDS ON A HARD BODY, filmmaker Bastian Günther’s scorched Texan drama scrutinizes what would drive fictional East Texas contestants to participate in such an outlandish event. Dour blue-collar worker Kyle (Joe Cole, PEAKY BLINDERS) is resolute that a brand new pick-up truck would immensely improve his family’s financial woes and marriage on the ropes. Yet Kyle is just one of 20 contestants willing to stand for days on end with one palm planted on the prized truck as the relentless sun threatens to spur bouts of madness. Compiled of a large ensemble cast, including stand out Carrie Preston (TRUE BLOOD) as the dealership’s contest promoter Joan, Günther nods to the classic works of filmmaker Robert Altman to effortlessly create compelling, authentic characters that interweave through flashbacks and unlikely meetings in the days leading up to the contest. Though initially filled with sunny optimism, Günther’s hardbody hopefuls begin to succumb to possible hallucinations and the harsh reality that the American Dream may be rigged and can’t be achieved with just a one-ton bed of shiny steel.
CAST: Carrie Preston, Joe Cole, Callie Hernandez, Bill Callahan
