WHITE LIE
A popular young woman carries on an elaborate deception of pretending to struggle with cancer to rally her university behind her as she raises money “for treatment” in nail-biting anti-hero thriller.
WHITE LIE follows university student Katie (Kacey Rohl), a popular young woman in her Ontario community who claims to have cancer. With her school and partner Jennifer (Amber Anderson) united behind her, social media fundraisers and benefits help Katie raise money for various cancer charities and her own advanced treatment in the States. However, Katie has a dark secret: her history is completely cancer-free, and her current attempt to raise funds is based in a completely fabricated reality. When Katie’s estranged father grows more suspicious of his daughter’s story, Jennifer too begins to question everything she thought she knew about her partner. As the steps she must take to maintain her illusion of sickness become more expensive and more dangerous, Katie’s story begins to unravel around her, threatening her entire identity and existence. From directors Yonah Lewis and Calvin Thomas, WHITE LIE dissects and explores what we let define us, and the lengths we go through to maintain outside perception.
