JULIA
RBG directors Julie Cohen and Betsy West bring to life renowned chef, cookbook author, and television personality Julia Child in this delectable documentary portrait.
After garnering an Oscar nod for their portrait of Ruth Bader Ginsburg, filmmakers Betsy West and Julie Cohen return with another inspiring portrait of a groundbreaking woman who rose to prominence in a field once dominated by men: culinary superstar Julia Child. Cohen and West trace Child’s winding path to celebrity, from her well-off childhood in Pasadena, to meeting and falling in love with her soulmate Paul, to her education at the formidable Le Cordon Bleu cooking school. Only in her early 50s, with the publication of Mastering the Art of French Cooking and the inception of her first series THE FRENCH CHEF, did Child achieve her unlikely status as the prophetess of French cuisine in America and the doyenne of home chefs everywhere. Combining archival footage, interviews with Child’s friends and admirers, and mouth-watering recreations of some of her signature dishes, JULIA is an illuminating and affecting look at a woman whose joie de vivre and passion for food have inspired generations of home chefs.
