MADELEINE COLLINS

Antoine Barraud | Belgium, France, Switzerland | French | 2021 | 102 MIN

Virginie Efira shines as a married woman juggling a husband and sons in France with a lover and daughter in Switzerland. When her lies begin to unravel, her life threatens to fall to pieces in this searing character study.

Judith Fauvet (Efira, PFF28’s SYBIL) appears to have a picture-perfect life. Beautiful and charming, she’s a dutiful wife and devoted mother to orchestra conductor Melvil Fauvet (Bruno Salomone) and their two sons with whom she happily lives in Paris. Her work as a translator frequently takes her to Switzerland, but we soon find that her travel is a convenient ruse. Nearly 700 kilometers from Paris, she’s a passionate lover and doting mother to Abdel (Quim Gutiérrez) and young daughter Ninon. However, after years of successfully maintaining this deception, the strain of being a loving partner and mother to two households begins to take its toll. Explaining her prolonged absences and secretive behavior gets more challenging as her lover grows weary of their ill-fated arrangement and her husband grows increasingly suspicious. Despite Judith’s best efforts, her two lives collide and threaten to expose her deception. How much longer can she maintain the farce, and which family will she choose? In this unpredictable psychological thriller, a desperate woman ensnared by lies tries to salvage the pieces of her shattering life.

CAST: Virginie Efira, Quim Gutiérrez, Bruno Salomone, Jacqueline Bisset
