ZERO FUCKS GIVEN

Julie Lecoustre, Emmanuel Marre | Belgium, France | English, French | 2021 | 110 MIN

The life of a flight attendant promises exotic adventures around the world, but for one lost woman it offers an escape from her past in this intimate character study.

Earthly woes appear much smaller and less significant when hurtling through the heavens at 30,000 feet above sea level on a commercial passenger airplane. But that doesn’t stop the needy passengers of ultra-budget airline Wing (think Ryanair) from pestering junior air stewardess Cassandre (Adèle Exarchopoulos, PFF22’s BLUE IS THE WARMEST COLOR) about the tiniest matters. Day after day the hypnotic drone of the gigantic turbines leads to hazy, monotonous nights of clubbing at her homebase in the Canary Islands, leaving Cassandre comfortably numb. When an incident at work forces her to be grounded at her family’s home in Brussels, Cassandre must for once turn off autopilot. First time filmmakers Julie Lecoustre and Emmanuel Marre capture Exarchopoulos’s honest and raw performance with a claustrophobic camera that at times emulates the lost polaroids of drunken nights and fleeting, sun drenched days. Through seemingly insignificant interactions and moments, the filmmakers build a rich and emotionally powered character study that truly soars.

CAST: Adèle Exarchopoulos, Mara Taquin, Alexandre Perrier, Arthur Egloff
