AMERICAN PAIN
Chris and Jeff George were frat boys who never grew up (or grew a conscience) when they embarked on creating strip mall pain med clinics throughout Florida in the 2000s. Each week the clinics would dole out extreme prescriptions for hundreds of thousands of pills, netting them a remarkable amount of industrial trash bags overflowing with cash. Whether slow to respond or influenced financially by drug manufacturers, the federal and state governments’ lack of oversight led to the George brothers welcoming caravans of drug users and illegal distributors to the Sunshine State with no end to the party in sight. Director Darren Foster crafts an equally entertaining, shocking, and infuriating documentary that explores how the quest for the AMERICAN PAIN often cannot be separated from American Greed.
