FOREVER YOUNG
Written and directed by actress-turned-filmmaker Valeria Bruni Tedeschi and based on events from her own formative years, this coming-of-age drama follows a troupe of new students at one of France’s most prestigious performing arts academies as they navigate the ups and downs of art and love. In the late 1980s, aspiring actors audition for the school at the Théâtre des Amandiers, run by haughty theater director Patrice Chéreau (LOUIS GARREL, THE INNOCENT). Among the performers eager to impress is Stella (Nadia Tereszkiewicz), a driven but sheltered young woman from a wealthy family. The rest of them are an equally intense bunch, including Stella’s fiery confidant Adèle (Clara Bretheau) and talented but troubled Étienne (Sofiane Bennacer), with whom Stella is soon smitten. With a nostalgic, melancholy touch, Bruni Tedeschi captures both the exuberant joys and searing growing pains of young people striving to forge their own artistic paths.
