HUESERA
Valeria (Natalia Solián) is thrilled when she learns that she’s pregnant, but quickly discovers motherhood isn’t the fantasy she imagined. Every aspect of her life is changing, and she faces increasing pressure from her husband, family, and doctor to sacrifice personal aspirations for the baby’s good. Despite ardent attempts, Valeria struggles to enjoy her pregnancy. Her fears increase when a sinister supernatural force starts threatening her child and isolating her from her loved ones. Valeria strives to maintain normalcy, but confronting the occult forces may be the only way to save her family. HUESERA is an unsettling work of body horror exploring the rarely discussed challenges of motherhood. Director Michelle Garza Cervera’s feature debut is the story of a desperate protagonist navigating a chilling world filled with looming danger. Cervera masterfully builds tension, keeping her audience in a continual state of unease until the shockingly candid end. This eloquent commentary on modern domestication received the Best New Narrative Director and Nora Ephron Awards at the 2022 Tribeca Film Festival.
