LOVE LIFE
Taeko (Fumino Kimura) and her 6-year-old son Keita (Tetta Shimada), a reigning Othello champion, are living happily with Taeko’s new husband Jiro (Kento Nagayama) in a cozy apartment in a small Japanese city. Across the courtyard in the same complex live Jiro’s parents, who are still unable to fully accept their son’s marriage to a divorced mother. But when an unexpected event brings a key figure from their past back into their lives, the family must put voice to emotional truths they’ve conveniently kept hidden from one another for years. Drawing upon a long cinematic tradition of dramas centered on the toll that restraint can take on the familial unit, director Kôji Fukada’s (HARMONIUM, PFF25) LOVE LIFE is a heartbreaking and tender look at the lengths people will go to support those they love and the emotional truths that can plague us all.
