RITTENHOUSE SQUARE
Having been kicked out of his home by his pastor mother for questioning his place in the church, KJ (Dharon Jones) finds himself in the iconic Philadelphia park, Rittenhouse Square. Desperate, emotional, and at his wits’ end, he encounters the burly, homeless veteran Barry (Nick Nolte), who persuades KJ to perform a song for him as he sips on his familiar bottle of liquor. Barry is immediately in awe of KJ’s raw, overwhelming musical talent and quickly takes him under his wing. Providing KJ with a place to sleep and protection while living on the streets of Philly, Barry unexpectedly fills the father role KJ so badly desires. Navigating a grassroots approach to his music career, KJ amasses a humble but dedicated audience encouraged and supported by both Barry and his snarky pal Dominic (Sydney Mae Diaz). From Brandon Eric Kamin, director of PFF28’s Filmadelphia Audience Award winner The Nomads, Rittenhouse Square is a touching portrait of family, faith, and the sacrifices we make to follow our dreams.
