THE LOST KING
Based on an unbelievable true story, this charming biopic stars Sally Hawkins as a woman bent on finding the remains of the much-maligned King Richard III. Feeling a bit lost after a divorce and a series of health setbacks, writer Philippa Langley (Hawkins) encounters the Richard III Society at an opportune time. These amateur historians are passionate about repairing the legacy of the misunderstood and ill-fated king, who has been frequently disparaged (by Shakespeare, among others) since his death in 1483. Before long, Philippa is obsessed with solving the mystery of Richard’s final burial site, a relentless search that eventually leads her to an unassuming parking lot in Leicester. Along the way, Philippa must persist despite the skepticism of those around her, including naysaying academics and bureaucrats intent on discrediting her work. The always-magnificent Hawkins brings tremendous humor and energy to her portrayal of a woman who, by rallying behind an unjustly scorned historical figure, begins to see herself anew.
