Renowned filmmaker Ritesh Batra, creator of the internationally acclaimed The Lunchbox, returns to the bustling streets of his hometown Mumbai in the swoon-worthy delight Photograph. Day and night, mild-mannered photographer Rafi (Nawazuddin Siddiqui) struggles to make ends meet as he documents the vibrant city and snaps occasional souvenir photos for tourists. When Rafi’s irascible grandmother demands that the perennial bachelor get married, he fabricates a relationship with a mysterious woman from one of his photos. Facing the inevitable meeting of the families, Rafi tracks down the woman and discovers that the shy Miloni (Sanya Malhotra) is willing to go along with the lie to fend off her own pestering relatives. What begins as a meet-cute romcom reveals itself to be a much more original and delicate look at love, family, class, and modern living in one of the world’s most populous cities.
