PFF SpringFest: EMILY THE CRIMINAL
JOHN PATTON FORD | USA | 2022 | 96 MIN | ENGLISH
In this riveting feature debut by filmmaker John Patton Ford, the unforgiving gig economy has left aspiring artist Emily (Aubrey Plaza) stranded with insurmountable student loans and an unfulfilling day job delivering lunches to LA’s endless sea of corporate offices. When a legally dubious side hustle leaves her filled with adrenaline and a pocket full of cash, Emily launches a mini criminal empire, one that proves to be as lucrative as it is dangerous. Though she still sneaks in her patented snark, Aubrey Plaza displays the full range of her impressive dramatic chops embodying an endearing and determined force of nature.
Cast: Aubrey Plaza, Theo Rossi, Megalyn Echikunwoke, Gina Gershon
