PFF SpringFest: MARCEL THE SHELL WITH SHOES ON
DEAN FLEISCHER-CAMP | USA | 2021 | 89 MIN | ENGLISH
First introduced by co-creators Jenny Slate and Dean Fleischer-Camp in 2010, Marcel the Shell (voiced by Slate) is a miniscule, talking seashell with one googly eye and a pair of plastic shoes. Marcel and his dotty grandmother Connie (voiced by Isabella Rossellini) reside in a house left unoccupied after its former residents moved out with the rest of Marcel’s family in tow. When a filmmaker (Fleischer-Camp) moves into the house and posts footage of his new roommates online, Marcel becomes an international sensation, and finally sees an opportunity to find the family he thought he’d lost. In this long-awaited big-screen debut, audiences get a deeper look into the imaginative world and oddly profound worldview of this indelible character, to heartwarming and hilarious effect.
Cast: Jenny Slate, Isabella Rossellini, Dean Fleischer-Camp, Thomas Mann
