LOUIS CLICHY | FRANCE, BELGIUM | 2026 | 90 MIN | FRENCH, DUTCH
In this animated watercolor gem, an 11-year-old boy in rural France begins collapsing without warning until an iron corset tears him away from the only world he has ever known.
Eleven-year-old Christophe is desperate to be the son his father deserves on the family farm that seems to be slipping away from all of them. Then Christophe’s body begins to fail him, and he cannot stay upright. He nearly causes a catastrophe with a tractor, leaving his doctor with no choice but to brute force the problem and prescribe an iron corset. Fastened from his torso to his chin, to be worn day and night, the device both positions him upright and marks him immediately as an outsider. Stripped from the routines of the farm and pushed aside by his father, Christophe drifts toward music, moved by the sound of the church organs and the companionship of both an aging organ player and a streetwise girl named Clara who is a walking ball of mischief. However, as he tries to adjust to his new life, he cannot escape the financial strain still plaguing his family, and the pressure to balance both worlds only creates more chaos for young Christophe. Winning several awards at Annecy, former Pixar animator Louis Clichy’s impressive animation feat highlights the fragile architecture of the human spirit as it finds balance in a world that keeps tipping over.
