Hong Kong action master John Woo’s last hometown masterpiece before his jump to Hollywood is a guns-and-explosions extravaganza featuring some of the most magnificent action sequences of all time. Chow Yun-Fat stars as Inspector “Tequila” Yuen, a no-nonsense, clarinet-playing officer intent on avenging his murdered partner by bringing down one of Hong Kong’s most dangerous crime syndicates. Tequila teams up with undercover cop Alan (Tony Chiu Wai Leung), a tormented assassin working for brutal mobster Johnny Wong. Tequila and Alan’s attempts to bring these ruthless bad guys to justice lead to lots of expertly choreographed mayhem, including balletic shootouts, non-stop explosions, and a very memorable, climactic showdown in the maternity ward of a hospital.
